After an easy hike to Star Peak, I still have plenty of time and no plans for today. Consulting maps and satellite images, Mount Lewis looks like an easy target and is more or less on the way to Pilot Peak. Obviously, I head towards it and soon park on the unpaved roadside, not far from the summit.
A short walk gets me close, but to reach the summit I climb a few meters up a ladder—no big deal. Lots of cables around look a bit scary; I suppose they carry current. At the top, there are a few structures, a benchmark, and nice views. Hundreds of Mormon crickets are everywhere. After enjoying a traditional apple, I head back to the car.
Another effective day: I bagged both Star Peak, an ultra-prominent peak, and Mount Lewis, a Ribu with over 1000 meters of prominence. Next, I’m eyeing Pilot Peak, the northernmost and westernmost ultra-prominent peak in Nevada.
