After reaching the top of Jargalant Khairkhan, we set our sights on yet another significant peak, with an overnight stay planned in Altai city and plenty of time on our hands. Embracing every chance for new climbs, we found an unexplored peak with a 237-meter prominence west of Mankhan city. Driven by a love for discovery, we directed our vehicle towards this virgin summit, eventually parking within the cozy embrace of a natural bowl’s peak walls, eagerly anticipating the forthcoming adventure.
The initial trek to a minor saddle was effortless. Subsequently, we traversed several hundred meters, deliberately avoiding a scramble to a lower summit. This strategic choice was made with a simpler return in mind, which would include a minor P40 bump, affectionately termed Bunchant South Top later on. This traverse was unchallenging, leading us to a summit plateau or ridge, depending on one’s perspective. At the summit, a wooden trig pillar awaited us, surrounded by mesmerizing views of the plains and peaks nearby, culminating in a brief yet rewarding hike.
Upon summiting this uncharted peak, we returned to our vehicle, hearts light and bodies weary from the day’s exertions. The journey back was a reflective one, filled with discussions of our accomplishment and speculation about future adventures. Altai city was our next stop, chosen for its stunning scenery and as a base for further exploits. Here, Altai city offered the respite we needed and the chance to gear up for Mongolia’s revered Otgon Tenger Uul, promising yet another chapter in our adventure through Mongolia’s spectacular landscapes.
