Cabeço Raínha

hike | 2023-02-06
1084 m altitude, 448 m prominence, - km isolation

Last peak planned for today, so we drove to the lower summit of Besteiros at 1080m to check out the views and a large black and white conical trig pillar. We then drove to the highest point where we found a huge concrete trig pillar (unfortunately impossible to climb) with two smaller ones on either side. Interestingly, one side is square and the other conical. Nice views all around, lookout tower not too far away.

Beautiful scenery on this clear day
Rob recording measurements on a lower Besteiros peak
Fernão Porco village
I tend to think that giant trig pillars are needed for giant projects
One side of the large trig pillar has a smaller square trig pillar and the other side has a round trig pillar (left).
Lookout tower and communication mast not far away (right)
Swings, probably a favourite with the locals
Gravel road between windmills
Probably Pico Espadana 954m ??
Windmill land

It is afternoon and we are more than a hundred kilometres from Lisbon airport, time to go. Driving down, then to the motorway, car hire, then shuttle to the terminal, then flight to London Heathrow, then hotel, then flight to Warsaw, then Vilnius. A long sequence, and nothing to leave out. So I take each step and contemplating that in about a month I will be travelling to West Africa, to the Cameroons.

I start recording the GPS after we have descended from the lower peak of Besteiros. It is a wide gravel road all the way to the top and down the other side of the mountain.
