There are three ultra prominent peaks in relative proximity: Mount Shasta, Lassen Peak, and Mount Eddy. After a successful Lassen Peak climb, my attention turned to Mount Eddy. Like with most of the other peaks on this trip, there was a risk of being inaccessible due to snow. I gave it a try and relaxed once I saw ten or more cars parked at the Park Creek Trailhead parking at 41.34281, -122.53769, with an altitude of 2089 meters. Later, I found that most of the hikers walked to Deadfall Lakes only.
From the parking lot, it’s almost a flat four-kilometer walk to the Deadfall Lakes, then a bit steeper climb to the slopes. Few patches of snow but all avoidable. Snow-free switchbacks section, and I’m on the summit. The summit has an ascent log box and some construction ruins. Good views, with Mount Shasta being the most close and impressive. Lassen Peak is a bit more remote but also clearly visible.
I enjoy a traditional apple and start my descent the same way. Soon, I’m back in the car, driving towards the next ultra. On the way to Star Peak in Nevada, I detour to Ribus: Mount Rose and Virginia Peak. I also stop at Hat Creek Rim, where the impressive nature beckons for more exploration.
