The flight from Manila to London passes through Doha. The stopover is too short to visit Qatar highpoint, but long enough to explore Doha in the evening. We leave the airport, find the metro, quickly learn how to buy tickets and are soon on a well-conditioned train heading into the city centre. We get off at Al Bidda station, next to the Amiri Diwan government building. Soon we are walking along the Corniche Promenade. A beautiful skyline and gulf views open up in front of us.
Toub Toub Ya Bahar is inspired by an old song from Qatar about waiting, sung by women waiting for sailors and divers to come home. It translates to “Oh sea, have mercy on the sailors!” (right)

We walked along the waterfront and had a delicious meal at one of the coastal restaurants. Time was flying by, though, so we headed for West Bay metro station on our way to the airport. The airport checks and procedures went smoothly and we were off back to Europe. Doha was an excellent end to our already successful trip to the ultra mountains of the Philippines.
