The highpoint of the Santarém region in Portugal. Rob and I found that neither of us had bagged this mountain, so there were few arguments against visiting it. We checked previous reports and expected to have to leave our car a few miles early, but when we arrived we found a reasonably good road all the way to the top. It was steep in places and a car with more clearance would have been better, but our rented ‘budget’ car managed perfectly. We parked less than a hundred metres from the summit.
We looked at the impressive, gargantuan trig pillar, then at the smaller one nearby. We made a detour to cross it and have a look around; a few minutes later we were driving down towards the next Alvaiázere. On the way, however, Ourém caught our attention. Latest is a small hill with a castle on top, so we decided to pay it a visit.
